Quilt Preparation
Do not pin or baste the layers together. All layers should be separate.
Quilt Top
- Indicate the top of the quilt with a safety pin. This is especially
important if the quilt is directional
- Square all outside edges
- Press all seams and borders
- Trim all threads (including on wrong side of quilt top)
Backing
- If backing is pieced, please use a 1" seam allowance and press seam
open.
- Remove all selvages and press
- Backing should be at least 8" longer and wider than quilt top
- Square all edges and mark top of backing with a safety pin
(Cost to piece backing - $10 per seam)
Batting
- Should be at least 6" longer and wider that quilt top
- Batting can be purchased through Quilting by the Yard, where we can
help you select a batting that will best be suited for your quilt You may

How to Apply Borders
